This is some concept art for an incubus in my RAVAGE AND REQUIEM novel series. This particular incubus once served the demonic emperor, Enerbiez, the ruler of the former ancient province of Ebenex. What remains of Ebenex is now part of the bloody jungle kingdom of Ixod, ruled by the reptilian tetrarch, Id-Zix, a conniving devil who managed to manipulate several of his kind into rising to power, including betraying Enerbiez and assassinating him for the throne.
Like Id-Zix, Enerbiez commanded a vast host of incubi, an oddity among Drixiles, as they deem any sexual act or feelings as human traits, thus seeing any show of romance or compassion as weakness and inferiority. Though infernal, the Drixiles still erroneously see themselves as holy beings of light, with their pretense of divinity serving as another reason to abstain from any intimate relations, especially with humans. Even worse, they are loath to spawn any more Nalx, the powerful and volatile progeny of fallen angels; Nalx are seen as "junkyard dogs," as they side with no one and thrive on constant violence, killing Arczells, Drixiles, and mortals alike.
In ancient times, Enerbiez debated the stipulations regarding sexuality with his peers before the Drixilian Scion, Tylphon-Teno, residing in House Oxil, the palace in the underworld known as the Nevarifta. With cunning rhetoric, Enerbiez was able to convince Tylphon-Teno that lust can be a form of torture to humans, so long as no emotional connection is made. As a result, Tylphon-Teno made a decree that only a certain order of demons would be allowed to commit such acts against humanity, much to the chagrin of the other Drixilian royals. Hence the incubi came to be. Nevertheless, the Drixiles hold them in deep disdain, especially the draconic Empress Maethel, seeing the incubi as feeble vermin among their ranks.
Whereas Ixodian incubi are lizard-like theropods using pilfered feathers to take flight, the remnants of Ebenex's servants are more avian in nature, having owl-like characteristics, though they can display and conceal these traits at will. Even more peculiar, a few incubi have amassed a secret cult in Ixod, hoping to resurrect Enerbiez and enact revenge on Id-Zix for the murder of their "true king."
